Tomorrow John Alan Simon, director/screenwriter of Philip K. Dick’s Radio Free Albemuth will discuss in detail his vision for the story and his experience in filming it. My interview with Simon on “Ancient of Days” will air Monday July 14, 2014, at 3 p.m. Pacific, 6 p.m. Eastern, on Freedomizer Radio.
This independent production features Alanis Morissette as the siren Sylvia Sadassa, along with a brilliant cast, from the leading roles on down to the bit parts. Radio Free Albemuth is mostly faithful to the novel of the same title, but with minor changes that work brilliantly. The special effects are top notch, as if the film had a much larger budget. Thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign, the film is now in distribution beyond the usual film festivals.
The thought-provoking story lacks explosions, shoot-outs and car chases, but it is nevertheless engaging. The suspense builds up slowly, allowing viewers to understand that this alternate world looks a lot like the one in which we live.
